About
Merima Agovic (b. 1996) is a self-taught analogue photographer and artist based in Southern Ontario, Canada. She explores the relationship between photography, time, memory, and identity by pushing the material possibilities of traditional film. Her practice blends a strong technical foundation with a focus on layered perspectives and intimate, atmospheric storytelling.
As the daughter of Bosnian refugees who came to Canada following the war, her creative perspective is deeply shaped by a history that influences her ongoing focus on personal identity, relationships and place. By learning her craft independently—shooting and developing film by hand at home—she approaches the analogue medium with dedicated visual perspective.
Through her focus on the physical process of filmmaking, Merima creates work that treats the photograph not just as a flat image, but as a tangible object capable of holding complex narratives. She is currently working with mixed-media processes and preparing for upcoming gallery exhibitions.
